The Green Details

PDF and Save a Bundle. A lot of web documents are printed only because there is not an easy way to save documents in their web form (e.g. newspaper articles, receipts, etc). Saving text is simple enough, but documents such as receipts or newspaper articles which combine images and formatted text are not as straightforward. Recognizing this need, GreenPrint provides a one-click icon in Internet Explorer that saves web documents as a PDF file. This preserves the web format without wasting paper. This PDF writer is also incorporated into the print preview so any document can easily be saved to file (after eliminating wasted pages) rather than being printed. For most users, this will also eliminate the need to buy a separate PDF writer such as Adobe Acrobat which can retail for up to $499.

Track Your Impact. GreenPrint integrates a reporting function that allows users to easily monitor their printing habits in order to quantify the dollars, pages, greenhouse emissions and trees the software has saved. The Enterprise Edition allows an administrator to aggregate the results across the company, view numerous different metrics, and provides an overview that allows administrators to critically explore areas where further savings may be possible.

Halve the Recycle Bin. The Enterprise Edition also incorporates a Recycle Printer button. When the recycle button is pushed, the document is printed on paper which was previously printed on one side and discarded (waste paper). This is done by allowing the network administrator to designate printers or print trays as "Recycled" - these would then be filled with waste paper which would get one more use before being recycled.

Climate Change. If widely adopted, GreenPrint could have a meaningful impact on the reduction of greenhouse gasses. If the entire Fortune 500 adopted GreenPrint, CO2 emissions would be reduced by over 12 billion pounds - the equivalent of removing over a million cars from the road for an entire year.

Do I need to buy one license for each computer in my office, or is the $70 fee a site license?

GreenPrint is licensed per computer. You will need to purchase a license key for each computer in your organization. Volume discounts and site licenses are available.

What additional functionality does the administrator have?

Standard users can link to the administrator, where all savings created by GreenPrint can be aggregated into an Enterprise report. The administrator has the ability to view the Enterprise report, customize paper and ink costs, and view reports for individual printers.

What is the Enterprise report?

The Enterprise report is a comprehensive report that displays the compiled savings for all GreenPrint users reporting to the administrator. Metrics calculated include: money saved, pages saved, trees saved, and CO2 reduced. Savings can be viewed for the day/week/month/year. The Enterprise report is only available to the administrator and cannot be viewed by other users.

How do I view the Enterprise report?

To view the Enterprise report, go to: Start Menu> Programs> GreenPrint> GreenPrint Enterprise Report

How do other users in my organization connect to me as their administrator?

Everyone will need to connect to the admin computer after GreenPrint is installed in order for the enterprise report to capture and aggregate everyone’s savings. You, as the admin, will also need to connect to yourself. To connect go to: Start Menu> Programs> GreenPrint> GreenPrint Configuration> Reports Tab> enter the administrator’s computer name under “Report Server Name”> Set Server Name> OK

How do I find my computer name?

To find your computer name, right click on My Computer> Properties> Computer Name tab> Full Computer Name

How do I set the paper and ink costs for my entire group?

Go to GreenPrint Configuration> Reports Tab> click “Edit Costs” button> enter paper and ink cost> click “Set Costs". This will set the costs for your enterprise report, individual users can import the costs you have set (so their personal reports use the same costs) by clicking “import costs from admin” in their reports tab.

As the administrator, how do I see which users are connected to me?

At this time you cannot see the individuals connected to you as the administrator, only the aggregated savings for the group. Our development team is working on the ability to see more in-depth reports for individual users, and this feature will be available in the near future (you will receive it in a free upgrade). Standard users can check to see if they are connected to an administrator by going to Start menu> All Programs> GreenPrint> GreenPrint Configuration> Reports tab. The admin computer name should be listed under “report server name”.
